Need for Fogging in Operation Theatre / Correct Fogging Technique

The environment of operation theatre plays a great role in the onset and spread of infections. There are extreme situations in operation theatre (OT) facilities, ranging from rooms, with fans, window, air conditioning, to the more sophisticated laminar airflow system. OTs, do not have an air handling unit (AHU) & other modern facilities with critical parameters.
Special airflow pattern (HEPA filter) & positive pressure isolation is used to protect patients from airborne contaminants in the hospital environment but complete eradication of micro-organisms in the operation theatre is necessary which is not possible with special airflow pattern and positive pressure isolation.
Standard aerial disinfection (fogging) with D-125, provides complete removal of micro-organisms from the operation theatre. Aerosol or fogging significantly reduces the number of viable infectious pathogens.
Foggers produce micro droplets that float in the air for around 20 minutes after application, reaching the most inaccessible parts where conventional cleaning or spraying can’t reach. Correct fogging technique.

Dentistry

Dental – Surface and Environment Disinfectants

Environmental surfaces in Dental professionals are divided into clinical contact surfaces and housekeeping surfaces. Housekeeping surfaces such as floors, walls, and sinks have a limited risk of disease transmission. Action plan for cleaning and disinfecting surfaces in patient-care areas should consider written standard operating procedures that consider the following:

The potential for direct patient contact
The degree and frequency of hand contact
Potential contamination of the surface with body substances or environmental sources of microorganisms

D-125 is appropriate for use in Dental offices under CDC Guidelines for Infection Control in Dental Health-Care Settings-2003.
CDC recommends US EPA registered hospital disinfectant. Selection of surface disinfectant for dental clinics should consider products having approved label claims against HIV, HBV and other bloodborne viruses.

Animal Husbandry

To Mop Hard Surfaces, Use two Bucket System

1st bucket filled with normal water, 2nd bucket filled with D-125 ready to use solution (15ml/ 1Litre of water), Take clean, dry & sterile mop. Dip it into normal water and squeeze. Dip the same mop into the 2nd bucket containing D-125 solution. Start mopping the surface from one end of the room, Dip it in water. Squeeze the mop. Dip it in D-125 solution & mop the surfaces, Use top to bottom approach, Mopping should first start with A.C. vent, table, other items, wall and then followed by the walls and floor should be mopped last. While mopping sees to it that the face of the mop should be changed in the next area to be mopped. Mopping should be in UNIDIRECTIONAL only. ( reverse and criss-cross not allowed, as it may redeposit the dirt again in the wiped area), After mopping, the mop should be cleaned and while drying the mop head should be kept upright down.

Applications :
  • D-125 is recommended for use in all open plant cleaning & disinfecting processes.
  • It should be applied after surfaces have been thoroughly cleaned and rinsed.
  • D-125 is used for disinfecting doors, walls, utensils and other food preparation equipment in dairy and is suitable for use in meat and poultry processors, foods and beverage plants.
  • D-125 is for sanitizing hard, nonporous room surfaces as an adjunct to acceptable as a disinfecting of room surfaces.
  • D-125 is suitable for fogging use.
  • Before fogging, remove or carefully protect all food products and packaging materials.
  • Ensure the room is properly ventilated. Vacate all personnel from the room during fogging & for a minimum of 20 minutes after fogging.

Poultry

Action plan of Avian influenza ( H5N1)

Bird flu, also called avian influenza, a viral respiratory disease mainly of poultry and certain other bird species, including migratory waterbirds, some imported pet birds, and ostriches, that can be transmitted directly to humans. The first known cases in humans were reported in 1997, when an outbreak of avian influenza A virus subtype H5N1 in poultry in Hong Kong led to severe illness in 18 people, one-third of whom died.

According to the World Health Organization, more than 850 people were infected with H5N1 between 2003 and 2016; more than 50 per cent of those individuals died. The majority of human H5N1 infections and deaths occurred in Egypt, Indonesia, and Vietnam.

Influenza viruses can be inactivated by D-125 disinfectant includes denaturation of surface proteins, thus preventing viral attachment and damaging viral nucleic acid thereby preventing virus replication.

D-125 is proved effective disinfectant against the avian influenza virus. D-125 tested at the (HIGH-SECURITY ANIMAL DISEASE LABORATORY) HSADL, Bhopal, meet the requirements of an ideal disinfectant when used as a surface disinfectant (lab workbenches, biosafety cabinet) and also for other decontamination procedures (spill-over) in the biosafety labs operated under graded pressure through modulated air handling system and outside the lab in other amenities also (Murugkar 2008).
